Welcome to Holly Tote Creations!
In 2021, Colorado passed a law that would eliminate plastic bags from grocery stores, and I realized that I needed reusable bags. So I started making my own.
I learned to crochet from my grandmother when I was in my teens, but I put it away as my life as a wife, mother, and high school teacher became busier. Then in 2020, as we all isolated, I needed a project. I brought out my old cross-stitch projects that never got finished and my yarn. Once the news of “No Plastic Bags” came out, I had the perfect project to work on, and Holly Totes started to take shape. At first, I was only making them for myself and for my two sons, but when I would go to the store, the cashiers would love them so much that I would give them one of mine. As more people complimented me on them and wanted to buy them, I decided to start growing my inventory to share with everyone.
My totes are super strong, can handle heavy jars and cans; they are stretchy, can pack a lot into them; and they are very durable.
I have used a lot of varieties of colors and variegated designs for my personal bags as I experiment with design choices, but for now, I am offering sport-themed totes, fall and spring color totes, a rainbow tote, and holiday totes. I will also make a custom tote if you have specific colors that you are fond of.
I use Red Heart acrylic, medium 4 yarn for the majority of my totes, but I have used other brands as well. I like acrylic yarn because it is easier to clean and care for than a wool yarn. Also, lighter-weight yarn will not be as strong as the medium 4, but it could be used for totes that are not being used for groceries or other heavy toting. If there is a specific brand of yarn you would like for your tote, I am willing to use your choice.
I want to share my creations and spread joy at no cost to you. Instead of payment to me, if you’d like to give back, please consider donating to Humane Colorado or Food Bank of the Rockies. Any support you can offer would be wonderful. I don’t have any personal ties to these organizations beyond acknowledging their amazing work in the community. Thanks so much for your generosity!
